As is being reported in newspapers and wire services all over the globe, President Elect Barack Obama is against the idea of “good ol’ ‘mericans havin’ guns”. There seems to be a great concern that he will seek a ban on semi automatic assault rifles.

 

As gun worshippers are quick to point out these are not really assault rifles as assault weapons are FULLY automatic and these are not. So no problem right ? Unfortunately just a quick search on Google lists thousands of site with information on the conversion of the AR 15, the most popular of these guns, from semi automatic to full automatic status. Apparently any one with a screw driver and about $300 dollars for parts can do it easily. In case you have a spare AR 15 around that won’t spray the entire neighborhood when you decide to shoot an intruder, here is a book that will show you the conversion proces. It doesn’t cost much and it’s written in short words and has lot’s of pictures for the benefit of NRA members.

 

In another recent story a woman was killed in Louisiana during a KKK ritual and on the televsion they were displaying weapons found at the campsite and it the homes of the allleged killers. There was a table full of what appeared to be military style assault rifles. Whether they were semi automatic or not wasn’t discussed. I don’t think it mattter to the victim anymore anyway.

 

In closing let me note that it is against the law to own an unlicensed fully automatic weapon in the U S of A. You could get up to 10 years in Federal prison for possessing one. I am sure that possible consequence weighs heavy on the minds of all the gang bangers, armed robbers and potential high school assassins out there.
